Medical office cleaning checklist for non-clinical areas
Use this as a starting point for the cleaning side of a medical practice; your clinical staff stay in charge of anything that touches patient care. A1 writes each practice's checklist after walking the space with the office manager.
Waiting room and reception
- Wipe and disinfect chair arms, seats and side tables
- Disinfect the reception counter and check-in surfaces
- Wipe door handles, push plates and light switches
- Clean pens, clipboards and sign-in stations if requested
- Empty regular trash and recycling and replace liners
- Vacuum carpet or damp mop hard floors
- Spot clean entry doors and interior glass
- Wipe down the water station or coffee area
Exam and procedure rooms (non-clinical surfaces)
- Disinfect counters, sinks and faucet handles
- Wipe chairs, stools and door handles
- Empty regular trash and replace liners
- Refill soap, paper towels and glove box holders if requested
- Damp mop floors with a disinfectant cleaner
- Wipe light switches and cabinet pulls
- Leave exam tables, equipment and sharps containers to clinical staff
- Leave red bags and regulated waste in place for the licensed hauler
Restrooms
- Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks and fixtures
- Disinfect grab bars, flush handles and door hardware
- Refill soap, paper towels and toilet paper
- Empty trash and sanitary bins into regular waste where allowed
- Clean mirrors and wipe partitions
- Mop and disinfect floors
- Wipe baby changing stations if present
- Check for leaks or broken fixtures and report them
Staff areas and weekly detail
- Wipe break room counters, tables and appliance fronts
- Clean the inside of the microwave
- Wipe desks and keyboards in admin areas if requested
- Dust vents, ledges and sills within reach
- Wipe baseboards and door frames
- Clean the inside of trash containers
- Vacuum corners and under seating in the waiting room
- Review missed items with the office manager
Agree with your practice which surfaces are cleaning tasks and which stay with clinical staff, and keep regulated waste with your licensed hauler.
